Healthcare Academy's New Course Assignment Tool
Big news for our automated course assignment customers: starting with 2027 assignments, the spreadsheet is officially retiring! No more filling in endless columns and rows in a confusing spreadsheet – course assignments will now be managed by you, directly within the LMS. It’s simpler, faster, and puts you in full control of the process.
To ensure a smooth transition to the new process, if you are responsible for selecting courses for your automated assignments, you are required to attend a training webinar in August or September. The registration link is below. Attendance is mandatory in order to activate this permission on your site, so be sure to save your spot and feel free to join as many sessions as you’d like! Hurry, training sessions begin Tuesday, August 11th.

Healthcare Academy on the Go!
This month, the Healthcare Academy team hit the road to connect with the people we serve. Rob Suing, VP of Sales, headed to Orlando, FL for the Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) Annual Conference & Trade Show, connecting with skilled nursing and assisted living leaders from across the state. Meanwhile, Devyn Rohlk, VP of Marketing, made the trip to Oklahoma City, OK for the National Association of State Veterans Homes (NASVH) Conference, spending time with veterans’ home administrators and staff dedicated to serving those who served.
From booth conversations to breakout sessions, both events were packed with great energy and even better connections. It’s always a highlight for our team to meet the people behind the facilities we support – swapping ideas, hearing what’s top of mind for your teams, and reminding ourselves why the work we do matters.

National Certified Nursing Assistant Week Winner
Tanya from Ardenwoods Retirement Community in Arden, North Carolina, is the winner of a team pizza party from our 2026 Certified Nursing Assistant Week giveaway.
Her nomination stood out as a powerful reminder of what makes a CNA special: “What makes Tonya truly exceptional is the trust she has earned from everyone around her. Residents feel safe and valued in her care. Families have confidence knowing their loved ones are being cared for by someone who genuinely cares about their well-being. Her coworkers respect her professionalism, reliability, and willingness to help whenever needed.”
Congratulations, Tanya, from all of us at Healthcare Academy! Read about our past winners here.
On Our Blog: Why Bedside Respiratory Care Is Becoming a Core Nursing Skill in Long-Term Care
Long-term care residents today are sicker and more medically complex than ever before — and respiratory conditions are a major driver of that shift. As hospitalizations for pneumonia, COPD, and other respiratory illnesses continue to climb, the nurses at the bedside are increasingly the first, and sometimes only, line of defense. This month’s blog looks at why respiratory care has become a core nursing competency in skilled nursing and assisted living settings, and what it takes to build a team that’s truly ready. Keep reading to learn more.
The Right Learning for the Right Moment
Not every learning need calls for a full course. Sometimes your staff need a quick refresher on an emerging issue. Sometimes an experienced nurse simply needs to demonstrate what she already knows. And sometimes a team member is ready to go deeper and earn a credential that advances their career. That’s why Healthcare Academy’s catalog goes beyond traditional courses—and we want to make sure you’re getting the most out of every format we offer.
Knowledge Checks are built for your experienced staff. Rather than asking a seasoned team member to sit through a full course on a topic they’ve mastered, a Knowledge Check gives them the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in less than 15 minutes. If they pass, they’ve shown competence—no full course required. If they don’t, they’re automatically directed to the corresponding full course, so no one falls through the cracks. Knowledge Checks aren’t eligible for contact hours, but the full course behind them may be accredited. It’s a respectful, efficient way to honor what your staff already know while ensuring everyone meets the same standard.
Knowledge Now education is our answer to the question, “What’s happening right now?” These targeted lessons—each under 10 minutes—are built around current events and real-world scenarios so staff can build expertise on the go, without a post-test or formal learning objectives standing between them and the information they need. When avian influenza makes headlines, when bed bugs show up in a community, or when a norovirus outbreak threatens your building, Knowledge Now is there. Recent topics include measles awareness and prevention, elopement prevention, opioid use and naloxone in the aging population, influenza, sharps injuries, and understanding tuberculosis. If it matters to your teams today, we’re working to put it in their hands today.
eCompetencies move learning from the screen to the bedside. Knowing the steps of a skill and performing that skill correctly are two different things—and eCompetencies bridge that gap. These skills checkoffs allow you to test and track hands-on competencies across your staff, giving you documented assurance that the people in your building can do what their training says they can do. For skills-based roles, there’s simply no substitute for verified, observable competence.
Certificate Programs are for the team members ready to take the next step. Our MDS 3.0 Certificate Program, ICD-10-CM Certificate Program, and Survey Introduction, Mandatory Tasks, and Critical Element Pathways Certificate Program offer structured, in-depth learning paths that build genuine expertise in the areas that drive quality, reimbursement, and survey readiness. These programs are an investment in your people—and in the strength of your organization.
The bottom line: The best education meets learners where they are. Whether that’s a 10-minute briefing on an emerging threat, a quick demonstration of existing knowledge, a hands-on skills verification, or a comprehensive certificate program, Healthcare Academy has a format built for the moment.
Not sure which format fits a particular need? We’re happy to help. Reach out through Ask the Expert, submit a support ticket, or give us a call. We’d love to talk it through with you.
