Kenn Daily, LNHA, BA

Kenneth Daily is the President, Elder Care Systems Group a long term health care consulting firm specializing in quality operations consulting, design and life safety audits and risk assessment analysis, and emergency preparedness planning and implementation.

A licensed NH administrator, Mr. Daily is a recognized expert in the life safety codes and standards and has a wealth of experiences in long term health care. He is passionate about helping facilities create the kind of compliance programs needed to succeed in all senior care settings. Throughout his career Kenn has been active in the development pubic policy and standards for long term health care.

Kenn is a member of the Ohio Health Care Association Board of Trustees and chairman of the OHCA’s Life Safety and Disaster Management Committee. He is a member of AHCA’s Life Safety Committee and the NFPA’s Healthcare Section. Kenn is also a former member of the AHCA Disaster Committee. Keen is a frequent guest speaker and has lectured nationwide on ways to improve the service and integrity of long term health care. He is an author and contributing editor of numerous articles and professional guides.

ANCC Learning Outcome

At the end of this program, the learner will be able to self-report a knowledge gain about emergency preparedness requirements according to Medicare an Medicaid Services Appendix Z, using a likert scale.

NAB Learning Objectives

– State one (1) reason why an emergency preparedness plan is required for Medicare and Medicaid Participating Providers and Suppliers.

– Identify two (2) disaster mitigation activities that can either prevent the occurrence of a disaster or reduce the severity of its effects.

– List three (3) components of an effective emergency and disaster preparedness training program.

Disasters can strike at any time and with little warning where the event’s severity, scope, nature, often overcome the organization’s ability to manage and/or respond with the resources necessary to protect the health and welfare of residents.  Facility leadership is critical in developing and deploying effective and innovative multi-disciplinary disaster response to ensure reducing losses, protecting lives, and a quicker recovery.  The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Participating Providers and Supplies requiring skilled nursing facilities to assess facility risks, improve their planning, and response and strengthen their training regime.

 

This program will explore the CMS requirements and guidance to surveyors (Appendix Z) including the requirements for facilities to perform a hazard risk assessment that uses an “all-hazards” approach to successfully establish and effective emergency program.  It will also review the critical components of a facility’s communications plan including the implementation of the most effective response through the Nursing Home Incident Command System.
