PDPM Series 3 – PDPM: Nursing and Non-Therapy Ancillary

Available: 06/24/19 – 06/23/20

Instructions on how to receive continuing education credit will be provided during the webinar event.  Certificate of participation will be delivered via email within 5-7 business days to those who successfully complete this educational activity.

Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) is a reimbursement model for long-term care facilities taking effect on October 1st, 2019. PDPM will replace the current case-mix adjustment model.  PDPM is budget-neutral and classifies residents into five categories: PT, OT, SLP, non-therapy ancillaries, and nursing.  Regulations like PDPM are increasingly important because cost-effectiveness measures remain a central focus for long-term care facilities.

Nurses and Nursing Home Administrators in the long-term care setting and other interested nurses.

Learning Objective

At the completion of this educational activity, the learner will demonstrate knowledge about PDPM as it relates to nursing and non-therapy ancillary by passing a quiz with a score of 85% or greater accuracy.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this educational activity, the learner will be able to:

1. Identify five (5) classification criteria for the Nursing Case Mix Classification group.

2. Select two (2) considerations when calculating a non-therapy ancillary (NTA) comorbidity score. 

3. Demonstrate how HIPPS code is generated from a completed PPS MDS.

PDPM Series 2 – Comprehending and Maximizing Under PDPM

Available: 05/20/19 – 05/19/20

Instructions on how to receive continuing education credit will be provided during the webinar event.  Certificate of participation will be delivered via email within 5-7 business days to those who successfully complete this educational activity.

The Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) will take effect on October 1, 2019.  This educational activity will allow the participant to understand the classification criteria for PDPM as it relates to OT, PT, and SLP and how these classification diagnoses are used during the PDPM process and coding section J.  Participants will also be presented with information about how to calculate a functional score based on section GG and how to identify SLP comorbidities for determining an SLP classification score.

Learning Objective

At the completion of this educational activity, the learner will demonstrate knowledge about PDPM classification therapy components by passing a quiz with a score of 85% or greater accuracy.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this educational activity, the learner will be able to:

1. Identify three (3) classification criteria for PT and OT case-mix classification groups.

2. List five (5) out of the ten (10) PDPM clinical categories.

3. Identify four (4) classification criteria for SLP case-mix classification groups.

PDPM Series 1 – Introducing PDPM Schedule Changes and Transition

Available: 04/22/19 – 04/21/20

The Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM), effective, October 1, 2019 will improve payments through the skilled nursing facility prospective payment system (SNF PPS). This educational activity will allow the participant to understand the transition from RUGS IV to PDPM, benefits of PDPM, optional and required assessments under PDPM, variable per diem adjustments, and the interrupted stay policy. These topics will help the participant understand how to prepare for implementing the payment system and identify potential impacts on their facility.

Nurses and Nursing Home Administrators in the long-term care setting and other interested nurses.

Learning Objective

At the completion of this educational activity, the learner will demonstrate knowledge about the new PDPM payment system by passing a quiz with a score of 85% or greater accuracy.

1. State two (2) MDS scheduling changes under PDPM.

2. List two (2) potential facility impacts related to the new PDPM payment system.

3. State two (2) actions that will prepare a facility for the transition process to PDPM

Trauma-Informed Care (TIC): Paradigm Shift in Healthcare

In 2019, The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services are requiring the integration of trauma-informed care (TIC) into long-term care facilities. This presentation will provide participants with a clear understanding of the TIC perspective and applicable TIC strategies. Participants will engage in an educational and experiential learning format to enhance their connection to TIC practice.

Audience

Nurses and Nursing Home Administrators in the long-term care setting and other interested nurses.

Learning Objective

At the completion of this educational activity, the learner will demonstrate knowledge about trauma informed care by passing a quiz with a score of 85% or greater accuracy.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this educational activity, the learner will be able to:

1. Identify three (3) healthcare providers who are responsible for TIC application.

2. State three (3) ways to create safe and compassionate interactions with others.

3. List three (3) examples of big “T” and/or little “t” traumatic experiences that can occur across one’s lifetime.

Ashley Swinson, MSW, LCSW, Certified Therapist in EMDR

Ashley is the Founder of TIDE Associates, a private practice that specializes in trauma-informed services, and she is the Co-Founder of the Provider Sustainability Program Collaborative in Wilmington, NC. Her clinical expertise includes the treatment of dually-diagnosed eating disorders and trauma disorders, traumatic grief, dissociation, secondary traumatic stress among professionals, and provider sustainability; notably, she has become a national speaker on these respective topics. Ashley has developed trauma-based group curriculums for outpatient and intensive outpatient facilities, and she works closely with the Wilmington community providing clinical supervision to professionals, as well as customized workshops for agencies to improve organizational health and wellness. She holds an adjunct faculty position with the Department of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and facilitates professional training’s through the university on the topics of social work ethics, supervision, and provider sustainability.

Continuing Education Credit

Each webinar is 1.0 hour of continuing education for Nurses and 1.25 clock hours for Nursing Home Administrators.

Healthcare Academy is accredited as an approved provider of continuing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

Healthcare Academy is a certified sponsor of continuing education with the National Association of Long-Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB). Healthcare Academy intends to submit these webinars to NAB for approval. 

For successful completion of this educational activity and receipt of contact hour(s), the learner must:

1. Participate in 60 minutes of continuous learning.

2. Complete a quiz with a minimum score of 85%.

3. Complete an evaluation form.
