High Reliability: A Power Tool To Drive a Culture that Optimizes Staff Retention & Recruitment
Date & Time
November 6, 2024, 1pm-2pm CST
Description
Participants in this session will learn how to apply the five (5) characteristics of a High Reliability Organization (HRO) to drive a culture of safety, security, efficiency, engagement, and activation with the defined goal of optimizing retention and recruitment of high performing staff. The impact of the new minimum staffing requirements in long term care have already been experienced and leaders need additional tools to effectively retain the staff they have and to recruit additional staff when the environment is competitive or there is a scarcity of resources.
The positive outcomes that result from a focus on quality, safety, and high reliability will be reviewed. Three specific high reliability leading practice that leaders can take back and implement in their facilities will be detailed. The first HRO leading practice that will be introduced is Safety Huddles. Safety Huddles deepen staff engagement and promote staff activation in the provision of safe, efficient, and compassionate resident care. The second HRO leading practice that will be introduced is Safety Champions. Safety Champions, are appointed staff who align with the communication of their facility leaders, support their peers, help identify operational and safety barriers to efficiency, and they help bolster morale across their teams. And the third HRO leading practice will describe the use of effective communication as a tool to educate and promote security during insecure times. Participants will have the opportunity to interact during this session using an online polling tool so be sure to have your Smart device at the ready!
